"As soon as by one's own propaganda even a glimpse of right on the other side is admitted, the cause for doubting one's own right is laid."~ Hitler
Process Paper
Our topic is “Nazi Propaganda: Responsibilities of the German Ministry.” Nazi Propaganda is the way the Nazis got their
information out to the German people before and during WW II. The reason we chose this topic is because we had already
learned about it in the past, so we wanted to learn about it in a more in-depth way.
We found many secondary sources, including encyclopedias, books, and online articles. The Holocaust Timeline, Joseph Goebbles, Adolf Hitler are just a few of the sources. One of the best sources is an online source called The History Place because it has an in-depth look at Nazi Propaganda. Our secondary sources helped us understand our topic better and led us to many primary sources as well as more knowledge of our topic.
Our primary sources include quotes, newspapers, videos, posters, and pictures. These sources helped tell the story of Nazi Propaganda. Our primary sources helped us learn new and interesting information. Another very useful primary source was an interview with Hannah Benninghoven's grandparents who lived in Germany as children during the war.
We chose to create a website because we thought it would be easier than a board because you have to print, trim, and glue your materials when constructing an exhibit. We also decided to make a website because we wanted to have more pictures and videos, and there is limited space on a board. We had a lot to put on our project, so we needed more room. The colors of our site are red and black because the Nazi's main colors of their uniforms and their flag were red and black. One of our biggest problems in creating the site was narrowing down our information so we did not exceed the word limit. We ended up cutting out words throughout our site.
Our topic "Nazi Propaganda: Responsibilities of the German Ministry" relates well to the theme "Rights and Responsibilities in History." The German Ministry's responsibilities were to tell the German people what was going on in the concentration camps and what they were doing in general. The Nazis didn’t tell the truth about what they were doing. They lied about the concentration camps. They made posters that had families smiling and having fun but they weren’t. They were not doing what they were responsible for. They denied the German people their right to know the truth. They also took away Jewish people's rights and used propaganda to try to justify this. The impact they had was huge. They killed about six million Jews during the Holocaust. They killed a lot of innocent people.
